I bought the asus 1814blt cdrom and have had a few problems with it. When I put in a blank disk all programs read no medium present and it doesn't seem to mount. Usually I reinsert it a ton of times till it mounts it. Whenever I reboot with that disc in it mounts right away. I have not done a firmware upgrade on the drive as It seems I have to boot to windows to do that and I haven't gotten to it yet. However I don't believe its a problem with my drive as like I said rebooting with the disc in works every time. Any tips or things I could look into would be great and thank you. Oh when it's not going to work it seems like the light stays on for a very long time if that helps.

Re: cdrom issues
Is this an IDE/PATA drive or a SATA?
You might want to try adding these, one at a time, to the end of your /etc/modules file:
libata
ata_piix
piix
I say "one at a time" because I have this second-hand and can't testify that you need all of them to make your drive work correctly. So put the first one at the end of your /etc/modules file, then reboot and see if the behavior is different, or not. If not, put the next one in, and so forth. A Ubuntu user reported that these fixed his CD ROM- reading problems.
