Hi everyone, I just bought a new computer, (AMD Athlon X2 3600, 1gb RAM DDR2, SATA HD 7200RPM) and I think it should run OpenGL apps without a problem (Beryl and Compiz Fusion are giving me problems). I have already installed the appropriate drivers. When I run these apps the effects run very slow, and I don't know why. I have a MSI K9VGM-V motherboard, my questions is, Is this motherboard incompatible with GeForce4 MX 4000 videocard in kubuntu? Or there is something else happening? Any ideas?

Re: Problem with Nvidia Geforce4 MX 4000
don't have a clue, but you could start by trying:
Code:glxinfo
Code:glxgears
and see if/how they work and what they say...
if things are ok here you know at least that your config is alright.
sorry can't be of much more help...
cheers

Re: Problem with Nvidia Geforce4 MX 4000
Envy or Automatix. However, if you got a new machine with that card in it? I'd sue if I were you. Hell, with that card your CPU can't even run at full speed I'd guess.
Anyhoo, don't mean to hack your box, but that is not a good gaming card at all. Some of my new titles flat say on the box "Will not run on nVidia MX"Dell SC1425<br />1 Xeon 3GHZ CPU<br />1GB ECC-DDR2 RAM<br />Onboard ATI Radeon 7000-M w/ 16MB Fixed/unshared RAM<br />Dual 82541Gl Gigabit Nic's<br />DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo<br />73GB SCSI Drive.<br />Never got Compiz to run properly on the ATI, but that is secondary of course.

Re: Problem with Nvidia Geforce4 MX 4000
Thanks everyone for your help... I know it's not a good card... I'm planing to buy a newer one, I just want to make sure this one works alright, because if I buy a newer card and the problem persists, it would be a waste of money.
Ok the first thing I tried was glxgears and glxinfo, (938.864 FPS, direct rendering: yes) everything is fine.
Then I tried Envy and installed the drivers automatically, it installed the version 1.0-9639 (the old one, and the one I had). So I tried to install the new one manually. It didn't work, xserver couldnt start so I believe the new drivers don't support my card.
So, my problem is in the driver? Thank you all for your help

Re: Problem with Nvidia Geforce4 MX 4000
I use the 9631 driver with this card, and it works fine.

Re: Problem with Nvidia Geforce4 MX 4000
If it works for you Robin it should work for me... but it doesn't... hahahaha :-(. I think my motherboard is in someway incompatible with the card, or with linux, I've seen in other places people with problems with this motherboard. I hope that with my new card the cpu will work fine. Thanks to all for the help!!!

Re: Problem with Nvidia Geforce4 MX 4000
I'm running Kubuntu x64 (AMD64) with the Nvidia GEForce4 MX 4000, I had to use the NVIDIA-linux-x86_54-1.0-9632-pkg2.run.
It's working good. Well... as good as that old video controller can.
