    Local printer greyed out

I try to setup my supported printer: HP Deskjet 5550

I has been working on another Kubuntu-pc...

On this computer, the "Local printer" option in the printer-wizard is greyed out!

    What do i do?

Ok, we'll have to start at the top.

    Plugged in?
    Turned on?
Any errors like out of paper or ink?
Is it listed in the Peripherals Section of K-Kontrol?
Is there a mouse in it? Don't laugh, I had a service call once where a house mouse got in a laser printer and was all mashed in the gearing. I sold them a new printer..
Is CUPS installed? Should be but check via Synaptic anyway, and ensure all updates are done.
Can you test it on another machine?
Is the driver for your machine listed? If not, you may have to install the Foomatic drivers.

GL! I'll keep an eye out to see the responses to this procedure. Don't fret, I've a few other trix up my techie sleeve, but the above is a good place to start. And 'power' is always the first place to start.

I've showed up on calls where cats/dogs have gotten behind the desk and pulled cords out. It's embarrassing for a customer to get handed a $130.00 on-site service bill 'cause Fluffy got bored.

The other possibility is that the driver for your printer was included in Edgy but dropped in Feisty (from the CD). That happened to me. That might be why it was available in another Kubuntu installation but not now.

As I understand it he is not getting as far as the drivers yet.

Try using the cups web interface to set it up.

        ~$sudo make me a sandwich
