Sound works for a while, then unexpectedly gives out only static

Hello, I seem to be having an issue with my sound from time to time. I usually keep my kubuntu box on for days at a time with mythtv constantly running. However, after a while of running say like 12 hours to a day of uptime or if I unplug/plug-in my headphones, the sound output mysteriously stops and is replaced with a hissing static noise. When I reboot the machine the sound works again.

My system is using a VIA8237 chipset.

Any sugestions? I'm trying to keep my uptime as high as possible since rebooting sucks on a epia machine.

This is just a guess but try "alsamixergui". you will find it in adept/synaptic.
It is a bit more stable at locking your mixer configs.
