Screen Resolution - I've tried EVERYTHING!!!! Help please...

hello, i've been all over this forum trying to find out how to put my resolution to 1024x768. I did a dist upgrade from edgy to feisty and bam - huge screen resolution and no way to fix it.? I went to system settings and there isn't even a Display & Monitor icon like in edgy. i tried gksudo gedit /etc/x11/xorg.conf and got an error msg. then itried: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-org error is xserver-xorg is not installed...

You sure there isn't an icon for Monitor & Display? Should be third row, third icon.
If not, try Alt+F2 and "kcontrol". See if you can get to it through there.

Alt+f2 kcontrol produced everything EXCEPT Display & Monitor...

Really. That's incredibly strange.

Hmm... how about opening up Adept (K Menu > System > Adept Manager), and ensuring the packages "kde-guidance" and "kde-systemsettings" are installed?

How about the "KDE version", i.e. [Alt][F2] kdesu kwrite /etc/x11/xorg.conf ...?

i went into apt and installed the dispaly & monitor and now i';m able to set the resolution. i'm giving it a try... be right back!

ok, everything seems to be up and going PERFECTLY! i went to apt and installed the Dispaly & Monitor and made the adjustments, rebooted and viola!
