What soundcard works well with Kubuntu Feisty Fawn?

I'm looking to get a soundcard that works well with Feisty Fawn,
as well as being a good sounding card. My budget is around $100.
    Any tips would be appreciated.

My approach is too late for you, Joe, but I'll share it for others who may be considering such questions.

I paid a premium price for an Intel D975XBX motherboard, which has (among other virtues) the Intel "HDA" audio system integrated -- actually a SigmaTel STAC chip, details here. Your $100 budget is reasonable -- I probably paid $75 - $100 more for this board than a comparable motherboard with lesser or zero integrated audio. Got a nice set of Altec Lansing speakers for the new system too.

I've been using Audacity and Gnome Wave Cleaner (gwc) to record and clean up some old 78 rpm records from the 1930s and 1940s, and I'm very pleased with the results I'm getting, along with a similar process for newer 33.3 rpm vinyl.

So, while it's not "professional grade" for folks who need 16 track mixing capability, it's a pretty good workstation solution for amateurs, and I think it makes economic sense compared to the cost of a cheaper motherboard plus add-on audio card.

And you're wise to check in advance -- there are lots of problems with the new Creative Labs cards, for sure.

Before you start shopping for a sound card, it will be very helpful if you first identify what you want out of a sound card. What do you want it to do? Are you interested in just basic working sound? Do you want enhanced features - Surround Sound? Once your need is defined, then shop around for sound cards that meet those needs. Then you can search the forums and/or Google for information on those sound cards you have identified for compatibility and/or problems/issues with Feisty Fawn. Taking this approach before you just 'buy and plug in' will save you endless hours/days of possible frustration.

i had to buy a turtle beach ddl 7.1 , because my creative audigy se 7.1 didnt work. My turtle beach however not only works in 7.1 analog, but also in the digital.

It is important to also note what NOT to buy: Creative X-Fi. It won't work.
Don't know about the Audigy 2 cards, but I heard they work, never tried myself. Audigy 1 runs fine, though.
I use the integrated soundcard on an ASUS A8V board, works just fine.
