    Nvidia GeForce 8600GTS install

I tried to install the newest drivers for my new graphic card (100.14.11).
But when I try to install, and relaunch X it says something like "one screen(s) found, but no valid configuration found - fatal server error".

Either my graphics card is not supported by this driver (I suspect, nvidia info page is weird) or I made a mistake installing it.

But I would not know where I made a mistake..., I exited X and run in runlevel 3, as the installer says, I run the config tool too.

Does anyone have an idea what's wrong?

      Re: Nvidia GeForce 8600GTS install

Most folks are getting successful results using the Envy script installer, downloaded from here:

      http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html

You want the file "envy_0.9.6-0ubuntu1_all.deb" which is about 2/3 down the page. Download it to your desktop, then right-click it and choose "Kubuntu Package Menu>Install Package". When it is installed, it will appear in your Kmenu>System menu, and you can run it from there.

In the event of a kernel upgrade, the proprietary driver will be rendered inoperable (brokey). In that case, in a console, you can enter
      Code:
      sudo envy -t
and it will be reinstalled for you.

      Good luck with it!
