I have a regular CD-ROM and a CD-burner. When I use K3b to burn disks, it sees them OK, but when I try and view the contents, just get a blank screen. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Kubuntu not opening my CD drives
By 'blank screen,' do you mean that you don't see the files you burned to the CD? Linux caches write actions, so doesn't actually write the files to the disc immediately. If you don't see the files after you have burned them, opt to unmount the drive. This forces Linux to write the cached data to the disc. You can then remount the drive and you should see the files.
On any removeable media that you have written to, you must let Linux finish the operation. To ensure that that is done, you tell the system to unmount the device. Wait until you are told that it is safe to remove the device, or that the status is properly reflecting that it is unmounted.
I believe that there are command line actions that will tell Linux to flush the cache and force the write too. This allows you to not unmount/remount the device each time.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.
