terratec aureon 7.1 PCI and spdif ouput

Hi,

My sound card is working well (CMI 8738-MC8) but I am unable to set the spdif output to pcm so my audio dac doesn't work. My surround sound processor can process the audio.

The audio dac shows a 48Khz sampling rate so the card is outputting dolby d.

can anyone help me to get the card to output PCM.

i haven't got a clue, honest.
i found this wiki page for mythtv and set up of digital audio.
hopefully it'll give you a starting point.
can't do much more, sorry

EDIT:
also found this.
it seems there's a system wide and a user based sound configuration file.
that you can use for special settings.
hope this is not totally useless...

Thanks for the pointers.

I've done some trlals with VLC and mplayer and got 44100 working, but then losing control of the card?

I will keep messing and post if i get some results that might help others.
