RAM

I have just noticed that when anything displays the amount of RAM that I have it always gets it wrong. It keeps saying that I only have 1011MB instead of 1024MB can someone please tell me why?

    Does it share with video?
    Dell SC1425
1 Xeon 3GHZ CPU
1GB ECC-DDR2 RAM
Onboard ATI Radeon 7000-M w/ 16MB Fixed/unshared RAM
Dual 82541Gl Gigabit Nic's
DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo
73GB SCSI Drive.
Never got Compiz to run properly on the ATI, but that is secondary of course.

Perhaps it is reserved for something.

On a similar note, some BIOSes can cache themselves in RAM for quick access. Perhaps that is what yours is doing.
      For external use only.

My guess would still be Shared with Video. My laptop here does and it always shows less than what I have for the system because the rest is shared off to Video. ACER 3618, Intel 900 series GMA.

It does not share with my video because I an using a Nvidia Geforce 6400 that does not have turbo cache but as for the BIOS I will have to look into it
