    Epson stylus cx4200

I am new to linux (I've been using it for about a week) and am currently trying to install my printer on kubuntu, which is an epson stylus CX4200 (a printer-scanner in one). However, none of the the CX series are in the list of printers when I use the wizard in the printer settings.

I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get the driver for it? (preferably for both the printer and the scanner, although I guess it would be alright if I can just get the printer working at least.)

by the way, I have read this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=94064 but I don't understand much of it, and I'm a bit confused because he says it's DX4200, and not CX4200. And what's Sane? Would that procedure work in kubuntu or is just for ubuntu?

    # Printer: http://www.openprinting.org/show_pri...-Stylus_CX4200

    # Scanner: assumedly not supported at present (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html)

You are going to need the printer driver from here (unless someone knows of a better solution):

      http://openprinting.org/show_printer...-Stylus_CX4200

and it indicates that the sane package will operate the scanner.

If the printer driver is only available as an .rpn file, you will need to convert it to a Debian file using the alien package (available in repo). If you search this forum, I know at least one poor newbie (me) who went through this process when Feisty came out -- it's not rocket science, just a few semi-obscure steps to convert and install the file.

Thanks guys, but I'm still completely clueless about it all.

I got the driver from that page, converted it into .deb using alien and then installed it from the command line. I didn't install the lsb thing because it said it wasn't needed in debian and ubuntu (or did I get that wrong?). What do I do now? If I navigate to usr/share/gutenprint there is only a folder in there with a bunch of .xml files, but no drivers.

Try installing your printer now. (System Settings > Printers > Add > Add Printer/Class).
          For external use only.

Hmmm, when I was having that particular adventure, the needed files were in a slightly different path/directory. Check this:

I have the same printer and the drivers are always installed by default. I am pretty sure the cx3200 drivers are included with gimp-print.
