    Open Office (Writer) print problem

Successfully got my Canon PIXM iP4200 installed, with CUPS etc - successfully meaning the test page printed OK, and I can also print .txt through Kate. But when I try to print an .odt document the printer just doesn't react at all. What do I need to get around this problem? I feel pretty sure I have installed the printer properly

    May sound silly, but ...

.. does the printer show up in OOs' according dialog (to be accessed e.g. by [Ctrl][P])?
... are the Printer Properties mentioned in the very same dialog (re-)set to useful values?

The printer shows up in the OO.o Writer dialogues as CUPS:Canon so it's being recognised. The printer properties all appear to be useful and even altering a few of them just to see makes no apparent difference.
As the printer seems to be correctly set up and it prints in at least one other program (Kate), logically the problem is to somehow get OO.o to recognise it.
      Any futher thoughts please?
