I own an Intel D945GNT Desktop Board and have some troubles setting up my microphone. Capture is enabled by default and correct input source detected, however volume is set to 0. When raised, the microphone works as it should, but settings are not stored for the next session, whether I use alsamixer or kmix. So basically I have to manually adjust settings each time I reboot, which is quite annoying.
