Monitor Problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop and have Kubuntu 7.04 installed

I just recently began having this problem where if i move the lid at all the laptop goes dead i don't know if this is a kubuntu problem or a hardware problem can anyone help me figure out which one it is.

Then boot from a "Ubuntu-free" live system (Knoppix, Puppy, whatever) ...

If the problem persists, I'd take it for hardware failure.

ill try one of those i sure hope its not hardware related I dont have the money to get my dell fixed. Ill report back when i do.

well it seems to be some sort of hardware problem i can live with it but just need to be careful I am going to contact dell to express my disgruntlement about the quality of thier so called "excellent products"

Have the same model. I don't experience that problem, so that probably confirms a Hardware issue.
