Help I had sound and now I don't

Hi,

I had did a new install and had sound working fine then all of the sudden when the mixer in the task bar got closed I noticed I had no more sound. I can't get it to work for nothing. Also I can seem to get the mixer back. So can someone help me get the mixer back and my sound please.

It's a little odd to see that "nvidia" inserted right in the midst of your sound processes, but I don't know that that represents any kind of a problem. I see both an "audio adapter CA0106" and a Creative Labs SB Audigy LS audio controller -- I wonder if that is the same thing at the hardware level, or if there are possibly 2 different devices in some sort of contention?

In your Kmixer, can you see the output device for playback? Can you change between the OSS driver and the ALSA driver? If you boot the live CD, does sound work again? If so, maybe you could boot the live CD, look at the Kmixer output device there, and then boot your installed system and adjust the Kmixer to match what you saw on the live CD.

I'm doing some work in my Ubuntu system at this moment -- as soon as I can I'll reboot to Kubuntu and see if I can discover any other approaches to figuring out your situation.

I typeed Kmixer and kmixer and the reply is command not found. As I said I lost the mixer when it closed.

I will try the live cd option and let you know. My sound card is Creative labs sb audigy ls and I think the ca0106 is the driver for it in linux.

What -- no kmixer? Well, there's a problem (sorry I didn't understand that it was literally gone from your system).

OK, open your Adept Package Manager as follows: Kmenu>System>Adept Manager, give it your password, and when it is open, scroll down to the package "kmix", mark it for installation, click "apply" at the top of Adept, and you will be back in business in 1 second.
