Display resolution dell e177fpb and ati x600

to all,
I am having some problems with my display. My LCD monitor should be sitting pretty with 1280X1024 resolution. or hopefully higher

after i loaded 7.04 when my system comes up I get a 'cannot display video mode' 1280X1024. I know this should work because i was working in xp.

any suggestions?

I have tried to detect my monitor type in the control panel to no sucess. (Detect Monitor)

anyone have this problem? my monitor is the dell e177fbp and its not listed within the list.

thanks, my eyes are hurting because all my icons are so huge!

Try altering the refresh rate.

thanks for your response.

i ran 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg' and then when it got to monitor settings i added the"*' next to 1280X1024 and much more . and rebooted.

my monitor still comes up and says it cannot display this video mode (pauses) then comes to login screen. It DOES however work now. my resolution is higher and is set to 1280X1024. yah!

i wonder why xorg dont come by default with all the options checked

anyways..its working now.
