    Feisty upgrade killed my dvdrw?

    Hello there!
I was using 6.10 and everything was sweet and fine...
The system asked me to update to feisty and I did it...
After reboot everything seems to work but if I put any media in my dvdrw drive...
    It won't mount
    Anyone experienced this?
    Any hints?

    update:
    using mount command from console
solved the problem but I'd like to get my previous functionality...
    Everything was "automatic"...
    How can I do that?

          Whoops...
          I was happy too fast

I can get to that screen but...
In my dvd reader case everything is dimmed and I can't set any options...
in my dvdRW case (the one that's no longer working correctly) i just see in media:/ a folder named cdrom1 but it doesn't have the "mount" tab when I open its preferences

Is there any media in it?
Put some in, then try again.

Re: Feisty upgrade killed my dvdrw?

I've tried both with media inserted (unmounted) and media inserted (mounted)...
              No luck!
Instead of dvd's icon i get a normal folder icon and if i open properties I don't get mounting tab...

Can you post your fstab? (It's /etc/fstab.)

Re: Feisty upgrade killed my dvdrw?

Might want to change the beginning of the floppy line to read "/dev/fd0". That probably won't fix it, but who knows...

Re: Feisty upgrade killed my dvdrw?

I'm thinking that /dev/hdc line is possibly part (or all) of the problem. I'm really not terribly Linux-savvy, but I don't believe CD/DVD drives are ever supposed to be hd-anything. I don't think you'll hurt anything by backing up your present fstab file, and then editing it by commenting out (inserting a preceding #) in front of the /dev/hdc line, and then changing the next line down by changing the mount point to /media/cdrom0 (instead of /media/cdrom1 as it presently is).

If I'm all wrong and it doesn't help, just restore your backed up file and you won't be any worse off than you already are ....

                      :P

Yeah, they are. I have a CD burner, and it hda and working fine. What I'm curious about is where /dev/cdrom points.

OK -- that's news, SheeEttin, but I'm willing to learn.

I'd really like to see ltpitt get ONE device working correctly, and then if we could figure out how we did that, then maybe we could get BOTH devices working --- that was my notion.

Not to add salt to the wound but I removed the CD/DVD drive mounts from my fstab file (due to odd mounting behavior) and they auto-mount fine and burn fine now, so I would just suggest commenting out both references to the CD/DVD drives all together and see what happens.

Moonrise, I tried commenting them out. Didnt work for me. My rw does not work with k3b nor will it mount with a know good read disk. My rom works fine with them both commented out. I have tried everything suggested on every forum including a known bug issue with LITEON drives. Heck of a coincidence. Looking for new dvdrw anyone know one that is definitely linux compatible? What are your mount pts under systems settings ? Mine have none with the drives commented out.
