Here's one I haven't seen and wondered if anyone had seen this.
I set up a second partition on my HP laptop to install Feisty AMD64. The unit has Intel Core Duo 2, Intel chipset (sound, wifi, etc). The system works flawlessly with Feisty 32-bit, which I've been running since herd 3.
I installed the Feisty AMD64 final release last night, and the system, generally, is working fine. I created a user account that would share my home directory with the 32-bit version to get things set up.
This morning, I decided to create a new user account specifically for the AMD setup, so I wouldn't get things mangled up with my old home profiles and configurations.
Problem: the new user account has no sound. The Kmix tray icon appears after login with a red X logo, and when I open the Kmix window from the icon, the sound card isn't detected. When I press the laptop's volume button above the keyboard (what has always worked), I get a message saying "Kmix does not appear to be running."
I can log off that new account, log into the old account (no reboot) and the sound works fine for the old account.
I tried rebooting and logging into the new account, to see if there was some off hardware detection issue, but still no sound.
The new account was created via sudo, and the new user was added to the admin group to allow it to use sudo. I can't see any real differences between this account and the original user account.
Anyone have a clue on this one?
