The only difference this last change made is that my user is shown as the owner of the drive on boot. However, if I try to unmount, I am still told that only root can unmount the drive. Clicking on mount has no effect, so I still have to use /disks and filesystems and the admin password to mount the disk once it is unmounted.
The common thread seems to be that the drive is only mounted with the use of a password, either at boot time or later.
