BUG: NMI Watchdog detected LOCKUP on CPU0

I get this error when trying to boot the LiveCD:

BUG: NMI Watchdog detected LOCKUP on CPU0, eip c02eb2d2, registers:
    Modules linked in: ()
I've already posted over in the Installation & Boot, but one said it was a motherboard/CPU/hardware problem, so I'm posting here.

The processor is an Intel Pentium D 2.66 GHz (dual core), the motherboard is an ECS C19-A (Manufacturer product page), and, if it helps, the hard drive is a WD Caviar SE16

    The original topic is here.

I had a similar error on my Core Duo system. It happened after I had severely mucked up my system and had done several "Hard Reboots." Booting from the Live CD (and then reinstalling) solved it for me. I assume the hard reboots had caused a critical file to become corrupted.

Well, I can't boot from the LiveCD. I'll try the Feisty Beta CD, see if that does anything different.

That concerns me. In my case, I had no trouble booting from either a 6.10 Edgy live DVD or the 7.04 Feisty Beta live DVD. If you continue having that error even when attempting to boot from various live CDs, I would suspect a hardware issue which, unfortunately, is outside my competency.

Booting from the LiveCD was, uh, the initial problem. I'm suspecting this cheap motherboard.
Anyway, I'll post the results of the new CD and a few others.

Okay, the beta CDs, standard and alternate.
The standard CD boots up until it mentions the nVidia reverse-engineered forcedeth driver, then it freezes. Nothing. (I don't think that's what causes it, though.)
The alternate CD boots for a while, then hits the same error:

              Modules linked in: sata_nv I∞≥╖$ï╕╣≤╖⌠»≤╖∞≥╖☻()
I highly doubt those characters at the end (excepting the parentheses) are anything but garbage, but they're there for completeness.

I really don't know what to suggest at this point. I did a google search with the keywords "nmi watchdog lockup cpu0" (without the quotes) and got a lot of hits, but it was mostly over my head.

I wish I could have been more helpful to you.
