Feisty doesn't find sata drives ?

    Code:
    :~$ sudo fdisk -l
Finds ide drives but not sata drives.

How to tell kubuntu that there are sata drives ?

    In the dmesg:
    BUG: at drivers/ata/libata-core.c:4364 ata_hsm_move()
    Is this reason ?

Dapper finds sata drives but not the feisty.

    hi Rog131
I check both Kubuntu and Ubuntu forums
On the Ubuntu forums they talk about the BIOS
    here are some links
    http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthre...ght=sata+drive

from a google search for "linux sata drive"

    Hope this helps a little
    Good luck

Re: Feisty doesn't find sata drives ?

If you have installed (K)Ubuntu, your SATA drive details can be viewed using Kmenu>System>KInfocenter, and select the drives menu item.

The console command "hdparm -i", which works so well with IDE/PATA drives, doesn't show much on my SATA drives. But I found that "hdparm -I" does output the SATA details in all their glory.

        HTH.

Thank you for your effort to help me. But - no joy

My feisty doesn't find sata harddrives. Why, oh why, oh why? :P
          As claydoh says:
Feisty Fawn is in DEVELOPMENT and should be considered unstable. The possibility of bugs, crashes, data loss, and even plain annoyances must be expected at this stage still
          In the dapper:
          Code:
          :~$ scsiadd -p
          Attached devices:
          Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: ATA Model: WDC WD2500JS-00M Rev: 02.0
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
          Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: ATA Model: ST380817AS Rev: 3.42
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
          Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: USB 2.0 Model: Flash Disk Rev: 2.00
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
          but in the feisty
          Code:
           :~$ scsiadd -p
          Attached devices:
          Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: USB 2.0 Model: Flash Disk Rev: 2.00
           Type: Direct-Access

Re: Feisty doesn't find sata drives ?

Hmmmm -- too bad. I did not attempt to do an upgrade from Edgy to Feisty. I downloaded the latest GParted, made a live CD, and pulled the power plug on my IDE drive to keep it from mucking up the process. I have 2 SATA drives and I partitioned one with a 12G partition for Windows XP (made it the active/boot partition), and then made partitions for /, /{swap}, and /home on the remaining space. I installed Win XP first, on the active partition. Then I made an "Alternate" Feisty Herd 4 live CD, and the only problem I had was getting it to let me set my /, /{swap}, and /home partitions the way I wanted, because the installer routine is buggy. Here are my notes:

            http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3080203.0

But, once I got it to let me set the partitions up, it went right ahead and installed correctly, including putting the boot menu on the active partition, and giving me the dual boot choice of Kubuntu or Win XP. It seems to run quite well on the SATA drives, which are much faster than my old IDE drive.

Messing with beta (new try with upgrade from dapper to feisty):

              Code:
              :~$ scsiadd -p
              Attached devices:
              Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: ATA Model: WDC WD2500JS-00M Rev: 02.0
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
              Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: ATA Model: ST380817AS Rev: 3.42
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05
              HOORAY
