    Should I remove kubuntu-desktop ?

I'm running Dapper and every time I try to remove a package adept wants to also remove kubuntu-desktop. I canceled the operation. How else can I remove unwanted packages?

kubuntu-desktop is safe to remove temporarily, but you'll want it installed when you upgrade to make for a smoother upgrade (less chance of breakage).

I would keep it in unless you're low on hard drive space (4 GB or less).

Ah yes, let it remove. kubuntu-desktop is a 'dummy' package; contains nothing itself but depends on loads of other packages. Removing any of them breaks kubuntu-desktop's dependencies, so you'll need to remove kubuntu-desktop to. However, it might cause issues if you attempt a dist-upgrade
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.
