    Live CD saving settings...

Excuse me if this has been asked before but i was curious if there is a way to use the Live CD in conjunction with a USB flash drive to save settings, installed programs, etc... so when i reboot live CD with my flash drive it would restore those settings and have those programs useable (i need firefox with its plug-ins, sorry )

    thank you,

As far as I know, *buntu live systems are not designed for such an attempt - other than, for example, Puppy Linux.

As penguin.ch mentioned, *buntu DesktopCDs might not be the best choice if you wish to use a persistent LiveCD OS, but it should be possible with a bit of tinkering:

Yeah, if you want a livecd with persistence, you're better off looking at a different one. Knoppix can do it, and is a good choice if you're after a 'complete' distro, including kde and in the dvd version gnome.

Many livecds can also be run by copying them entirely into RAM at boot, if you have enough. And then you can get amazing speed. You'll need about a gig for knoppix, but it can be done with 256 with DSL (Damn Small Linux) and maybe Puppy.
I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (yes Gnome) with upgrades applied daily about 0900 UK time. Hardware is Dell Precision 420, 2x 800 MHz PIII, 512 MB RDRAM, nVidia GeForce 6800 128 MB AGP graphics, 18GB SCSI and 500GB IDE HDDs, DVD burner, Hauppage TV card.
