I have been trying to install jre 1.5 for weeks now (it has not been a priority). I have tried the commands that others have posted and still no luck. The download is on my desktop as jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586.bin. How do I install to use with firefox and konqueror? I think I'm half way there but I can't get the last steps.
