Media Players

[Bonafide]

Hey.. ive installed kubuntu 6.06. However, the builtin players Kaffeine and Amarok donot play my media files(extensions *.mpg, *.mpeg, *.mp3, *avi, *.wma, *.wmv).. Can someone tell me the name of the packages which will enable me to play the above mentioned file types?? Please give me the links of sites where the binaries are available for free. Apart from that... i also need the link of any website offering WINE(Windows Emulator)

You don't need websites offering programs. The "linux" way to install things is to use package managers. Programs that will download and install software for you.

The most used package manager in kubuntu is adept. It should be in your system menu.

You must also tell known of a thing called "repositories". Those are places where software is stored, so that adept can download them at your request. Check this

Wine is in the standard Ubuntu repositories, so you shouldn't have any problem to install it. If you want the latest version, you can check:

http://www.winehq.com/site/download-deb

Wine is not exactly newbie friendly. If you feel that it is difficult to use you can try codeweavers crossover. It's a comercial product based on wine that is much easier to use:
