I have ubuntu Dapper installed with kubuntu-desktop installed and set as the default desktop. My problem is that at very random computer startup times ( from as few as two to as many as ten ) the screen resolution has changed, and the xorg.conf file has been completely been rewitten. Does any have an answer to which file is called to overwrite this file and OR anyway to stop this.

Re: Rando screen resolution change to xorg.conf
Hi,
this sounds like a problem that I have, I have an ATI graphics card and if I use system settings to change resolution or gamma all works ok until I re-boot and then the xorg.conf is trashed. I have asked about this twice with no reply. the only work around that I have found is to edit the xorg.conf to change resolution, not the display module in Kde and install fglrx control for the gamma this is not ideal as fglrx control defaults on each re-boot.
Sorry if this is far from an ideal reply John

Re: Rando screen resolution change to xorg.conf
Thanks for the reply John Bird.
The only other information I have found is "xvidtune" . When used with the flag of either -prev or -next it will cycle the video resolution of all available choices. I put a terminal application in the task bar so at least I can change the screen without having to reconfigure xorg every time.
