    Hello
Being new to Kubuntu here is some good reference guides that will show you how to work with Adept and other info. Hope this helps.

And once you get a hang of Adept (check the links provided in the previous post), you need to add/edit your software repositories for opera and keepassx

Opera (as a commercial product) has been made available from the "commercial" repo and keepassx is available from "universe" (which isn't enabled by default)

Here is a step-by-step guide how to enable universe:
      https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu

For opera, you need to add a new repository, which you can also do from adept (manage repositories)
the repository line to add is:
      deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ dapper-commercial main
Remember to click 'Fetch Updates' in Adept after adding/enabling the repos to refresh the package lists.

Thanks, linuxwizard and kubicle. You've got me pointed in the right direction.
