Linux in text mode only. How??

    Hello ppl,

I',m intrested in using a text only environment for linux. can someone tell me how to do it ... ??
I'm using KDE and tried to uninstall it already. I've suceeded to some extent but when I boot It's always in X mode and not text mode. Text mode only happens is I choos safe mode and it that options I can't get internet nor access my printer ...

      Hey,

Just came back from psychocat =)

It doesn't work. It says x-windows-system=core isn't installed...
      Can't remove KDE either ...

Change the run level to i think "3" by editing the /etc/inittab

Well i think thats how it goes, reboot and you will be in text mode. To start KDE if you need to just type "startx"

        I wouldn't remove xwindows/KDE

just make sure you don't use a weird run level it may kill your OS. usually runlevel 3 is text mode and 5 is the normal GUI login.

ps - you should make a copy of the inittab file before hand
