    VMware Workstation vmmon Problems

I tried out the tips in the vmware server thread but I still run into trouble.

It said I needed the C header files and apt-get stuck them into the directory below.
still will not compile.  I am a linux noob and should not be doing this but I really need vmware to run on this machine.

I am using gcc as a compiler.  I don't know what else to say.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
    kernel? [/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.15-26-386/include]

Extracting the sources of the vmmon module.

    Building the vmmon module.

gcc-4.0: auto-build: No such file or directory
gcc-4.0: HEADER_DIR=/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.15-26-386/include: No such file or directory
gcc-4.0: CC=/usr/bin/gcc: No such file or directory
gcc-4.0: GREP=grep: No such file or directory
gcc-4.0: IS_GCC_3=no: No such file or directory
Unable to build the vmmon module.
