I installed Kubuntu along with winxp. i can play vedio such as .dat files. but i cant hear any sounds. But all the system sounds can be heard.

what should i do to install windows compatible softwares to install in Kubuntu such as Norton Antivirus or Jet Audio.

Linux is very different from Windows. For one thing you don't really need an anti-virus program.

There really isn't "Windows compatible" software. There is Linux software that you can use to get the same things done as windows.

For your sound, right click the speaker icon and chose "Show mixer window" I bet the volume is turned all the way down.

But I am sure that all the sounds are turned up. i can hear sounds of games.
