    Dapper freezes...

    Hi,

A couple of months ago, I installed Dapper without a hitch on my Dell laptop. I am using wireless to connect to The World. Then, about a week ago, I decided to pay another visit to 'getautomatix.com' and followed their instructions for an automated install. I now realize that this 'getautomatix' update changes something on my laptop with the nett result that after rebooting, my laptop seems to 'freeze up'. I started noticing this after I opened Firefox... I get to use firefox a minute or so when suddenly, my whole platform locks up. When I revert to an image of a week ago (pre-getautomatix update), nothing happens to my Dapper.

I have no idea what updates get installed with getautomatix that could possibly lead to this behaviour. I wonder if this behaviour rings a bell with anyone else. Thanks for letting me know.

    gr.,

    Re: Dapper freezes...

I've had the same problem. This is happens when connected to wireless network. Sometimes after 1 min. sometmes after an hour.

In my case answer for this problem was very simple.
I just go back to standard kernel for 386 architecture - and that's It!

Try to find any linux-image on Adept or Synaptic and remove anything exept 386. It works for me and may be usefull for You.

By the way - be very carefull with automatix. Don't install anything exept codecs and other multimedia staff from it. When I install graphic card driver via automatix - everything crashes and only full reinstall of Kubuntu helps.

    My configuration:
    IBM Thikpad R40
    Netgear Ma250 wireless card
    Belkin Adsl router.

      Re: Dapper freezes...

Starting about a week ago ( after I had clicked on the triangle icon and updated) i started to get screen freezing. This occurred using Opera but I also find it happening with FF and Konq.I have been doing the updates since as soon as they appear in the hope that someone will fix something that shouldn't have needed fixing in the first place.
      Still getting freezing.
      (edit)
I have just had a "black screen";(first ever) for a split second it went black and when it came back it was completely frozen; mouse as well; had to pull the plug to shut down.
      Restarted ok.
