I'm glad you got it working, seemed like a strange issue. 
You probably figured out already how to change the default access key in yakuake settings.
If you wish to troubleshoot the F12 key, you can start 'xev' in the konsole and see whether it reports the F12 keypresses...in case it's a problem with the F12 key itself.
