    Unable Send in Kmail

I'm a total newbie in Kubuntu 6.06 and I'm beginning to despair - I can receive POP mail in kmail over a dial-up account but am unable send outgoing messages. Messages are placed in Outgoing Folder but there they stay. Status line shows no activity whatsoever when I attempt to send. I have configuration for sending set to mail.iol.ie (per ISP instructions) and default port 25. Can anyone help please

    mail.iol.ie
this is correct for receiving mail. The outgoing should probably be:
    smtp.iol.ie
    Charlie
I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.

Solved!!!...mail.iol.ie was correct. I deleted the two messages I had in Outgoing folder and then compacted it. It seems to have solved the problem. I don't know why compaction would have been necessary as it is new installation and they were first two outgoing messages ever in kmail. Many thanks for yr help....

        Good for you!

Don't despair, there are many challenges that await us Linux noobs - us noobies should stick together like glue.

Anyway, if it is your first time with Linux, and would want to learn more, I suggest that you back up your files in a removable and play with the settings and keep the important things you learn in a blog - if you have time.

I feel the same way sometimes as a noob - but I always go back!

I fear I spoke (or wrote) too soon. Alas, Kmail is still not responding to any send command from the menu. It may intermittently transmit one message from queue in Outbox on opening Kontact. It's just too unreliable for end use yet - I'll leave it and move on to Thunderbird.
