    Shutdown issues

I have a very big problem. Kubuntu will not shut down when told to do so. All Kubuntu will do is offer a blank screen and then nothing as oppssed to the usual shut down text that says kubuntu is stopping certain things and then shutting down. What could cause this? This is a fresh install with only a few things added like codecs. Forced to use Windows for the time being. thanks for any help.

Do you have fglrx or ati drivers ?

    If yes:
    From KubuntuDapperKnownProblems

Using fglrx or ati drivers may cause KDM/xorg to freeze on logout or reboot [WWW] #30447
Workaround: add (uncomment) the line TerminateServer=true to section [X-:*-Core] in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc

So how exactly do I do what that says? Where do I uncomment what? (Still learning!)

You are going to edit the file /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc (i.e. sudo kate /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc) Find the section that starts with [X-*-Core], At the end of that section add a line that says TerminateServer=true save the file.
