I got lcd monitor with 16:10 aspect ratio but usplash has only vga modes with 4:3 aspect ratio - could I install vesafb-tng http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/vesafb-tng/ or this thing only works with gentoo?

vesafb-tng stuff looks scary so I doubt I'll try it; meanwhile I'll use vga=normal (textmode) unless someone knows 16:10 mode for usplash
