The easiest way is to ensure you have a network connection when you install, that way all updates are installed as part of the install process and you're good to go. If you install without a network connection then all the repos are disabled so the auto update notification doesn't work and you can't find updates. Not particularly helpful but there you go. So you need to enable the repos to get updates. Have a look at

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu

which shows you have to enable the Universe and Multiverse repos which you'll want at some point. Whilst you're editing the repo list to enable them look for lines like

    Code:
    deb [url]http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/[/url] dapper main restricted
    deb-src [url]http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/[/url] dapper main restricted

    deb [url]http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/[/url] dapper-updates main restricted
    deb-src [url]http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/[/url] dapper-updates main restricted
and enable them too. (It may not say gb. at the start of the url. I suspect mine says that because I live in the UK and when I installed it was automatically set to that.) Then save the changes and quit Adept. After a minute or two an update notifcation will appear up in your system tray which you can click to install updates. You can also use 'Fetch updates' in adept but if you just wait you'll also find out what the update notification icon looks like.

Well thanks for the info. But I did the automatic system update as you said. Actually I wanted to know how I can configure the updation process (like the one that appears in Ubuntu, allowing you to set the machine to check for updates daily, weekly or monthly).
