    Help installing firefox.

    Hi forum
I'm using a fresh install of Kubuntu 6.06, and trying to install firefox.
Tried using both Adept, and manually via sudo apt-get install firefox.
Also tried the installnewfirefox.sh script, but it crashes too.
In Adept, I enabled the universe and multiverse repositories.
Then searched for firefox, and "request install" firefox.
Gives "BREAK (install)" message.  D'uh ?

sudo apt-get install firefox gives more helpful messages :
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
firefox: Depends: libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.9.0) but it is not installable
Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.8.0) but it is not going to be installed
        E: Broken packages

So how is the best way to get the atk/gtk libraries installed ?
    Much TIA's

    Re: Help installing firefox.

    Bluegroper,

prior to juggling with libraries, I would suggest to (re-) try:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install firefox

(From your posting I didn't get if you had updated the package lists before you tried to install.)

As for the libraries: at least from my experience, Synaptic is the best graphical interface to package management on such a "low" (read: sophisticated) level. (You can install it in parallel to Adept and make use of it as the case arises - I use Adept for "daily" system updates, but Synaptic for specific maintenance tasks.)

Thx , but I found an easy solution.
Delete kubuntu and install CentOS 4.4.

        Much better way.
        1. Install ubuntu (includes FireFox 1.5)
Comes with 2.6.15 kernel (necessary for Intel 3945 wifi card)
        2. apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
        3. Logout
        4. Login, select kde

        Now, that is seriously good.
