    kmail config file question

    Hey folks,

    I did a quick search and didn't find anything covering this.

    What file does kmail use to save passwords for pop3 accounts?

    I need to find a password that I've forgotten, but kmail is still getting the mail OK. I looked in ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc and found where the password should be listed, but all shows is:

    pass=************

    Is there another location that might give the pw in real text?

    tnx,
    ~JC

    I think that passwords that are saved are encrypted. Even if you find the location, you will onlly uncover jiberish.

      WAIT!

      tcpdump to the rescue. I had this issue once with a user pop account. I had the user pop email while I ran tcpdump on the then ppp0 link to the net. I saved the dump file and then opened it after the pop was done. U will have to learn how to make tcpdump read the file in human readable format, but once you figure it out, the password will be right there.

      Good luck OM!

        Thanks OM. I'll play with that for a while.
