Please take a look at this HowTo. As usual, it's pretty Gnome-centric, but you should be able to find some useful information, there.

Worked fine for me. I set up a dell lat 2500 with ubuntu and the FN key works like normal. I push the numlock key and the keypad is active.

I am new in Linux, so i am sorry if this doesnot help you

I am using Acer 3628 series, and the problem was same. I tried to change the keyboard layout to US and get it fixed. May be it will work for yours. CMIIW
