In the past, I've tried the kwin composite manager on Dapper to create shadow effects and transparency on my desktop. It worked nicely and was stable, except when I tried to run opengl games. Is there a way to toggle compositing on/off so I can safely play fullscreen opengl games?
I realize that compiz is much farther along and has cool plugins but, I'm not ready to risk changing window managers and hose my system. There is a "HOWTO" in the Ubuntu forums for compiz and opengl games but I really need something similar for kwin right now.
