Question: using clone mode can I have a different resolution for the tv then the laptop. Native for the laptop is 1680x1050. Tv standard is 640x480 if I remember correctly.

So the question is can I have 1680x1050 on the laptop and 640x480 on the tv using clone mode.
If yes, then how do I set it up.

i know this is an old post, but i want the same thing. i have an nvidia 6200 with a tv out. my lcd res is 1280 x 1024 75hz, tv would need to be 640 x 480 60 hz i believe. as a qualifier, this was a n-brainer when i ran xp, so i am hoping there is an easy solution using nvidia drivers, and no messing with the xorg.

i should also note, the tv displays what the monitor does as the puter is booting, once kubuntu starts, only the monitor works.
