Why Is My ThunderBird So Slow ?

I have Thunderbird on WinXP, Ubuntu Dapper and Kubuntu Dapper all on the same computer, so there can not be any conflict with hardware. But in my Kubuntu system, Thunderbird is unbelievably slow. To the point where it is almost not useable.

Is there anyone else that has experience this ? Does anyone have a suggestiion on this issue ? I will be looking forward to your replies.....

    thanks,
    sarah

Hi , do you have any extensions installed in thunderbird that could be causing the problem? And how did you install thunderbird or should I ask did you use apt-get .... automatix..... or here http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/

If you don't have any extensions installed and you used apt-get then you might try downloading from mozilla and installing that one to see if it clears it up for you.

No exstensions installed. I installed it through adpt.

Thanks for your reply statyk, I may just re install TB some other way and see if that helps.

Re: Why Is My ThunderBird So Slow ?

The reason I mentioned that is because I had installed skype thru automatix and the microphone did not work making skype useless. So I uninstalled it and then downloaded one of the versions from skype.com and it worked perfectly. Im sure it might have had something to do with different versions but in either case it worked and if its working I'm happy

So if you tried apt then you might want to try automatix or thunderbird.com or both.

        Good luck
PS. I just noticed you mentioned adpt I guess that means adept?
Here are the ways I know of that you can use to install apps
        adept
(in terminal) apt-get install (application here)
        your usual compressed files
        automatix

        Hope this helps. Cheers

I did install it the first time using adept (type-o), since then I tried Autmactix, that seems to be a little bit better but not much, Next I will try apt-get, I do not have much luck installing from source so if I still have to, I will try that last of all.

unsure if this will help but its worth a try ...

open TB top bar edit > preferences > general > connection settings

change from direct connection to auto detect proxy settings for this network

you may have to close then open TB to see if it worked ...
