    Problem updating ClamAV

    Hi

I am having difficulty upgrading Clam AV, from within the program. Basically I am able to download the update but it won't compile as it cannot find a working gcc. I have gcc3.4 and gcc4.0 installed and so don't understand this.

Has anyone any clues about this?

Not sure if this is the answer, but perhaps you need to also install the dependency package called 'gcc'. I think that will set gcc to point to the latest version you have installed on your system.

Thanks for that. I installed plain old gcc.

The error message from within the clam A log is now:

      "***** Clamav
      ***** Running configure (./configure)...
      checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
      checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
      checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
creating target.h - canonical system defines
      checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
      checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
      checking for gawk... (cached) gawk
      checking for gcc... gcc
      * configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
      * See `config.log' for more details.
      ***** Return value 77"

      Any clues please?

Anything interesting in the end part of config.log?
