Why is Mepis 6.0 faster than Kubuntu?

I've just installed Mepis 6.0 in my beloved Kubuntu Dapper box (dual booting) and man, it's a lot faster than Kubuntu. If it's based on Ubuntu Dapper, how come is that? I even tried tweaking my Kubuntu a bit just to see, and no way, Mepis is still faster!!
Has anybody else had this frustrating experience... Is it really this way or is it just my nightmare?

I have tried Mepis and i find it about the same. It is said that Mepis is slighty more stable but thats about it. thats interesting though...
