Installation of programs

Hi, i am very new to Kubuntu.
I have some problems, i don't know how to install games and other programs. F.x. if i'm trying to install a game, the computer wants me to find a program which i have to use to open the game with. And the same with programs. What am i going to do?

What kind of file is it? .rpm, .deb, .run, etc.
you should probably check to see if the game is available via adept first. that would be easiest. to install software, use this guide.
