    how to play mp3

    Hi all,

I installed Amarok by the synamptic manager in Kubuntu Dapper. But I can not play mp3 files with this program. What are the additionals to listen to mp3 files with amarok? Or is there a change required in the setting of the program? I am waiting for your help.

    Thanks...

[If you are using Kubuntu Dapper, Amarok is already installed by default.]

Kubuntu does not have support for MP3 installed by default. You need to install the proper codecs for this. In Kubuntu, you need to install libxine-extracodecs, which is found in the multiverse section of the repositories.

To enable multiverse, follow this guide:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu

    Hope that helps.

Bahar:Jucato's hint is very helpful. I asked the same question, got the same answer, followed it, and now Amarok is playing mp3 music just fine.

Hey, it could be simple if you see how I got Amarok rocking mp3..

Just open and try to play mp3 file in Amarok...
You will be displayed a message that 'Amarok' does not have a plug-in for mp3 sipport. IT WILL SHOW THE NAME OF THE PLUGIN AMAROK NEEDS TOO which I forgot now (may be i can post when in home)

Note down the plugin.. just install that using Adept.. Amarok ROCKs!!!!

Also, don't forget to click 'Fetch Updates' in Adept to refresh the package lists once you've enabled multiverse.

the plugins that Amarok needs to play mp3 are...

                libmad0
                libxine-extracodes

which you can fetch by adding
                deb http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper multiverse

in your repository & fetching updates..
                voila
