Crashes on Shutdown / Log off / Restart

Using Kubuntu Dapper.. I noticed a strange problem where Kubuntu crashes giving either
    1) Some garbage screen (like when the graphic card/monitor is pushed to display a wrong resolution)
    2) Mouse pointer and nothing else

when I tried to reboot / shutdown / log off. Any ideas where I should look into? I'd probably start with
changing my graphic card driver (using ATI x800XT and fglrx)

ps I've noticed on kcontrol's display setting, video ram is incorrectly detected (show only 256 kb?)

    Any suggestions will be appreciated

    Maybe this from KubuntuDapperKnownProblems
    https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuDapperKnownProblems

Using fglrx or ati drivers may cause KDM/xorg to freeze on logout or reboot [WWW] #30447
Workaround: add (uncomment) the line TerminateServer=true to section [X-:*-Core] in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc
This worked for me. (radeon 9600, fglrx)
