Now no audio drivers loaded?

Now no sound from Dapper. I had it earlier, then did a "sudo dpkg-reconfigure debconf" as part of another problem. Sound went away, and now KMix says "Mixer cannot be found." Alsamixer says "All Audio Drivers failed to load."

"Sudo alsaconf" reports "no command found"

How can I reconfigure ALSA? Thanks all.

Alsaconf is not part of the (K)Ubuntu distro. I was shocked, too.

You could try to re-install "alsa-base", "alsa-utils", and "kmix". if that doesn't do it, you could try re-installing *gstreamer0.1* and *xine*. Obviously, I'm grasping at straws, here. Have you tried all of these steps?

Thanks so much for the response. I appreciate it! No problem now . . . I discovered I had no audio on the Ubuntu installation as well -- and I hadn't touched it. I turned the box off, and reinstalled physically the PCI audio card. Now it is fine . . . seems to have vibrated loose.

How wierd that alsaconf is NOT part of the distro. Could it be added from ALSA's site?

The problem, as always, is matching versions, not only in the alsaconf program itself, but also in the rest of the alsa-utils package, which you'd have to replace, and in the alsa libraries. (K)Ubuntu is presently using Alsa 1.0.10. Alsa is up to 1.0.12

A more likely prospect would be to check the versions in use by Debian, since that's where (K)Ubuntu originates. So, I did. Unfortunately, Debian-stable is using 1.0.9 and both Debian-testing and Debian-unstable are using 1.0.11 (which is what we'll probably get in Edgy). Basically, for reasons known to themselves and those who follow Ubuntu packaging more closely than I, the Ubuntu developers decided to remove alsaconf from the Debian package.
