I think you need to undo the edits to the kdm files (kdmrc?) but I have not toyed with xgl/compz i quite a while so I am not sure if its still the same install process.

I had coded by hand all of the Xgl/Compiz code, and had the same problem you had. I edited kdm back to normal. I then found a slick way to get it in no time, and in it's own session. It's Automatix Bleeder. You can get it here:Code:sudo apt-get install automatixbleeder
