Application to build a website with

    Hello people!
I need to build a website.
I have NO previous knowledge in building one and I'm looking for an application a-la NVU to build websites without really knowing what you're doing

I need suggestions and recommendations from you fine people so that I have several options.

    Thanks,
    Elez

Try Quanta Plus in the repositories. I've been using it for over a year. It is the one application that decided me on switching my second laptop from Windows to Linux.

But as far as building a web site without really knowing what you're doing, that's asking a bit much. There are a ton of resources on the web where you can learn. One of the best places to start is at the W3C consortiums tutorials section, which you can find at http://www.w3schools.com/. These are the folks who create the web standards to which we all adhere <g>, and I've found their lessons to be priceless.

In fact, they really are priceless: they're all free!

Other than that, you can Google "free html tutorial"

It's not hard to learn how to do it.

The pevious post pretty much sums it up, but I'll just add that if you really like NVU, you can install it, too (it's available from the 'universe' repository)

There is also a GTK (gnome) editor called bluefish (also in universe), that is favored by some.

And I'm sure there are still others (but those three seem to be the most popular)

That said, I'd recommend quanta like the previous poster, but you can visit the homepages to see the features/screenshots and test them out before making your choice.

If you have the time and energy to devote to learning PHP, MySQL, web server basics, database management, etc., go for it!

NVU is one of the easiest to use, they all have a learning curve. You can download it off the web. If I remember right it has a self installer

Yeah, why does it have to be a la Nvu? Just use Nvu!

              Step 1. Enable extra repositories:
              http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources

Step 2. Paste this command in the terminal:
              Code:
sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install nvu
Linux is ready for the desktop--but whose desktop?<br />How to install software in Kubuntu
